The Northeast Fisheries Science Center's Social Science Branch (SSB) conducted a survey of crew and hired captains participating in the commercial fishing industry in the New England and the Mid-Atlantic states during October 2012 - September 2013. The survey was conducted in several selected fishing ports from the region. Crew members were approached on the docks and asked to voluntarily participate in a face to face interview. By the closing of the survey, 400 interviews were completed. The SSB intends to repeat the crew survey in 2018.
