Monkfish have been tagged with data storage tags (DSTs) and released in the Gulf of Maine and southern New England in a cooperative effort by the commercial fishing industry, the Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC), the Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) and the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. Each fish has two external pink t-bar tags inserted near the dorsal fin in addition to the internally-implanted DST. If you recapture a DST-tagged monkfish, please RETURN THE ENTIRE FISH WITH TAGS INTACT along with recapture information requested below. There is a $500 REWARD for return of the entire fish with its tags and recapture information. Please keep the fish on ice and freeze only as a last resort. To report a recapture and arrange for shipping or pick-up of the fish, complete the form below or call toll-free:

     NEFSC:   1-877-826-2612
     GMRI:      1-866-447-2111

Note: Monkfish tagged with yellow or blue external streamer tags are NOT tagged with data storage tags (DST) and should be reported to GMRI at 1-866-447-2111.
