Marine Mammal Acoustic Projects
Our passive acoustic research program uses the sounds produce by marine mammals, other biological sounds and human made noise as a tool for understanding the seasonal presence, distribution, behavior and, where possible, abundance of all species of cetaceans.
Our use of this technology focuses on marine mammal; migration and distribution patterns; acoustic behaviour and movement; deriving abundance estimates and distributions from stock assessment surveys using towed arrays; as well as improving the integration of passive acoustic data with visual data collected as part of our standard monitoring mandates.
