An Invitation from Jon Hare

Science and Research Director
NOAA/NMFS/Northeast Fisheries Science Center

I'm writing to tell you about our upcoming peer review of NEFSC programs in economics and human dimensions science. The review meeting will take place at our Woods Hole, MA laboratory May 1-4, 2017.

Similar reviews are being carried out at each of the NMFS regional science centers this year as part of an ongoing process to routinely evaluate our science enterprise.

A team of experts will conduct the upcoming peer review. The reviewers will evaluate the quality, relevance, and performance of science and research conducted and provide advice on planning future science and research. Opportunities for input by members of the public will be provided each day.

Information on the meeting and how to participate, background documents, a list of panelists, the agenda, and presentations prepared for the review, and final reports will be available on this website.

The work under review is essential as we move toward ecosystem-based fishery management the region. I expect this review will highlight some of our strengths but also identify areas where improvement is merited, and help us to chart a course to advance our work. I consider peer reviews to be necessary steps in evaluating our science and in the process of change as we adapt to new challenges and new ideas. I encourage and welcome your attendance at our upcoming review.
