Northeast Fisheries Observer Program

Information and Directions

The Fisheries Sampling Branch comprises approximately 50 staff members, which includes a Branch Chief, Administrative Assistants, Area and Fisheries Leads and Assistants, Trainers, Debriefers/Editors, Data Entry and Archive, Data Analysts, Database Support, Data Quality Control, Vessel Call-In Coordinators, Electronic Monitoring Project, and Observer and Fishermen Liaison staff. 

Most staff members have had experience as observers and continue to go out to sea as scientists, observers, trainers, or liaisons.  The FSB is responsible for training, supporting, equipping, and debriefing the observers; receiving, processing, and validating observer reports; and providing observer data and samples in support of numerous studies, assessments, and fisheries management.
