Figure 3. Batch spawner, Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua). Atlantic cod spawn pelagic eggs for external fertilization in marine waters of the North Atlantic Ocean and adjacent seas, such as the Baltic. They mature after several years and females spawn eggs in several discrete batches during spring.

Reproductive cycle is immature, developing, ripe, running ripe (which may be repeated), spent, and resting. Fish begin developing again after the resting phase.
