NOAA's Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) conducts directed fisheries research to conserve and manage living marine resources and their environment. Research topics include population biology and dynamics, resource assessment and environmental surveys, taxonomy, physical and biological oceanography, social sciences, data management, larval fish/plankton ecology, large marine ecosystems, aquaculture, biotechnology, remote sensing, protected species and apex predators.

NEFSC has proposed that summer employment opportunities be made available during May - September 2010. Pending available funding, a limited number of summer positions will be offered throughout our laboratories which are located in Woods Hole, MA; Narragansett, RI; Milford, CT; Highlands, NJ; Washington, DC and Orono, ME.

The 2010 Summer Employment Opportunities List

YOU MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN.
YOU MUST BE AN ACTIVE FULL TIME STUDENT or
HALF TIME UNDERGRADUATE/ *GRADUATE STUDENT
at a college or university for the upcoming 2010 school year at the time of application, or, you must be accepted as a full time or half time student in an academic program for the upcoming 2010 school year by the time the summer position begins. Students that have completed the requirements for their degree this Spring are not eligible for appointment unless they have enrolled or been accepted for enrollment in an additional educational program as either a full time or half time student.

* While we will entertain acceptance of graduate applications under certain circumstances, the program is primarily for undergraduates.

Summer Students are responsible for locating and covering costs of summer housing in the local area, and providing their own transportation to and from the NOAA laboratory. THERE ARE NO STIPENDS AVAILABLE TO COVER HOUSING OR TRAVEL EXPENSES.

Salary levels vary depending on the geographic location of the laboratory and the semester hours the student has completed.
