NOAA’s Fisheries Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have scheduled two public hearings on Atlantic salmon in Maine.  At the hearings, both oral and written testimony will be accepted on the Services’ proposal to expand the endangered listing for the Gulf of Maine population of Atlantic salmon, and on the designation of critical habitat for the proposed population.  Both hearings will be preceded by information sessions.

Those planning to make an oral statement for the record are encouraged to bring and submit their statement in writing as well.  If attendance is large, the time allotted for oral statements may be limited.

The Services are also accepting written public comments on the proposals outside of the public hearings through December 2, 2008 on expanding the listed population, and through December 5, 2008 on critical habitat designation.

All comments, written or oral, are considered by the Services when making final decisions on the proposals.
