David Tomberlin ABSTRACT – Oct 27th Seminar
Abstract: The difficulty and expense of gathering
environmental data
raises an important management question: when should managers invest
time and money in scientific study, and when should they forego such
study in favor of proceeding straight to a management action? Put more
generally, in an uncertain and changing world, under what conditions is
learning worth the effort? I will explore this question in a
stochastic dynamic optimization framework, with applications to seabird
nesting habitat surveys and water quality monitoring.
