Step 1. Remove Tag & Determine the
Type
There are 2 tags on each yellowtail flounder connected by
a metal pin. A numbered tag on top of the fish, and a blank
or scale tag on the bottom of the fish. Use plyers to cut
the pin and remove the tags.
| There are 4 types of
numbered
tags that are positioned on the top of the fish:
1. Pink $100 reward discs
2. Pink $1000 lottery discs
3. Yellow high reward discs
4. Green data storage tags

And either blank
or scale tags on the
bottom of the fish:
1. Pink blank
2. Pink scale tag
3. Orange scale tag
Step 2. Data Collection
Please collect the following information for all tags:
- Tag Number
- Date
- Location
- Water Depth
- Fish Length
| If the bottom tag was
a pink scale tag or an orange scale tag, please collect a scale
sample. Just scrape off a few scales from the tail region and
place them in an envelope or clean container. |
