Policy and Eligibility for the Lottery and Rewards

Lottery tags are returned by a variety of people. Processors, beach-goers and other fishermen who return tags and report the info listed below are eligible. To be eligible for the lottery and rewards, the tag must accompany the information listed below. This is to ensure that we collect at least the minimum amount of quality information needed to make the return useful in the overall project. Non- industry members such as researchers, academic, state or federal institutions and fisheries observers are not eligible for rewards.

Lottery drawings are held approximately every 2 months at industry association meetings, trade shows, festivals and events throughout the year that are considered appropriate to host drawings. Only 1 tag is drawn. Door prizes, such as yellowtail hats, may be available depending upon the drawing venue. The winning tag receives $1000. NEFSC staff will call the winner within a week. Winners must provide their social security number to claim their reward.

All qualifying tags remain in the lottery bowl for each drawing. Winning tags are removed from the bowl. Vessels who return multiple tags are eligible to win multiple times.
