Research
The information requirements associated with the complex decision making process involved in fisheries and environmental management often outstrips the capabilities of the agency’s in-house staff. What can be more logical than to turn to the nation’s universities? CMER offers the government a way of utilizing the full range of academic talent the universities have to offer. Education The decisions we have to make about fisheries management will not go away tomorrow; in fact, they may become even more difficult in the future. We expect to meet this challenge with the benefit of better and more complete information. A new generation of scientists and technically capable managers are needed to deal with these problems and CMER will contribute by providing research opportunities for new scientists interested in marine science. |
| Sharks are important apex predators in the marine environment. The CMER Program has funded a variety of projects on shark biology that have contributed to the management of these important resources. |
